Magazines are read and purchased daily by thousands of people. The growing popularity of magazines shows the increasing demand and proves that they are a need for many. There are magazines available on various issues like sports, health, gossip, beauty, business and the list is endless. With time, many people have shown a great interest in reading magazines and hence it is one of the best mediums to place your advertisement.
Magazines are published every week or month or fortnight and unlike newspapers, they have longer life. Placing an ad in a magazine is beneficial for both you, and the magazine – the publisher gets to earn revenue, while you reach out to people with your product, which later increases your sales.
Before you place an ad, always conduct a market research on the number of readers each magazine has, the kind of image it carries in the eyes of its readers, etc. When placing an ad, you will have to consider the target audience for your product as well as the magazine. The target audience has to be same for both your product and the magazine. For example you cannot place ads for a beauty product in business magazines, but you can place them in Vogue or Cosmopolitan. As many magazines have specific readers, your job gets easy to reach out to them.
Once you decide which magazine you wish to place your ad in, you need to work on its style. To make the most of the ad, it has to have an eye-catching appeal. It is advisable to hire a professional for designing your ad. It is better to spend more money in designing than to have a failed effort on hand. You have to make the most of the space you get and come across as very appealing. There are many ad agencies and professionals who have better technical know how and can make your ad very effective. If you want to draft your own ad, do hire a graphic designer to give special effects to your ad.
Magazines give you a better option for printing your ad in a colorful and glossy format. They give you the freedom to make your layout more attractive. Depending upon the type of magazine, you can draft your copy using striking words. If you need to give more information on your product, mention the link of your websites for detailed information.
Remember, the ad that you place is an opportunity to attract customers and so it needs to draw more attention. Be very creative and add humor if possible. Try to keep the copy simple and easy to understand.

As website designers we know the ins and outs of good design….but our clients may not be so in tune. Clients do not know about Firefox, pop ups, and SEO. They just know they want their site to have a lot of sparkle that gives them exactly what they want when they visit a site. However uncool in the real world, their idea of their website is the best idea they could have come up with.
Clients usually have a general idea of what they want before they ever call a website designer. They browse their competition’s websites to see what they can use or improve upon. Trust me, I have heard some crazy ideas about what a client wants. Even though we give our clients free range over a project, we have to stop them sometimes because their over-the-top ideas can hurt their website, their business image, and even my company’s image. If their website looks cheap and over-the-top, we can lose business because our name is associated with their design.
Below I have complied a list of the worst things for a business to do for their website. If you have a customer that wants any of the following items then you should point out the cons of the item. You can use our list below for some quick tips.
Of course you will have some customers that just don’t get it and want their website the way they want their website. With clients like this you have a few options, make it and don’t put it in your portfolio, give them little input about the design, or just refuse to do their site (you lose money, but you save face). If you choose to refuse their business you NEED to explain to them why you are refusing them. This might keep them spreading bad press for you or it might even change their mind about their ideas.
Simple, Yet Effective
Let’s discuss the things to do before we get into the things to not do. Make the site navigation easily recognized and easy to use, make the site visually pleasing, and lastly make sure it is error free. Simple enough, so now lets get down to the best ways to make visitors give your clients website a thumbs down.
Always Over the Top, Never Over the Competition
Now let’s begin the bad ideas they have collected from clients. Clients are usually pretty easy to change, but sometimes you just have to work with their “bad” idea or face losing a customer. You just need to explain to them that an over-the-top website will not generate visitors, but could turn them away. Here is what to avoid or point out as a bad idea early in the design process.
1. Music On Load
The one thing that I hate the most is music that automatically loads when you visit a website. Usually in this case I just move on to the next website..as do most of the visitors. I listen to my own music when I surf the internet so I hate when a web site’s music blasts through my headphones and screws up my vibe. Sometimes that can throw off my design process because I was jolted out of my groove.
Most people that do not just leave the website turn the music off via the website stop button of their system volume. This part is even trickier when their is no stop button for the music (embedded background music, not a player). Clients make this mistake the most and you need to let them know that this is a bad idea because not all of their visitors have the same taste in music.
On the other hand a band or musician website may have music that automatically plays. I still recommend against it, but usually the visitors of band or musician websites are looking to hear their music, so I think that having a player is great, but playing music on page page load is a big NO NO.
2. Site Designed For One Browser
Since the beginning of the internet their has been one major browser that everyone associated the internet with. Now it is called Internet Explorer. Some people think that IE is the internet, they have never heard of Firefox, Opera, or Safari. Boy are they missing out.
A good designer should already know this but some clients may not…don’t design for one browser and leave the rest hanging. A lot of internet users are learning about other browsers through trial and error and if you do not design for their browser of choice then you may lose out on getting them a new visitor. Using the “Best Viewed In [insert browser name here]” link is not only a slap in the face of a potential visitor, but you are saying your website requires them to download something (some people take this as a virus download and quickly leave).
Bottom line, websites are meant to be dynamic, to be inviting for visitors. If you limit your browser capabilities then you limit your visitor base.
3. ALT Text Missing From Images
Do this for people who cannot see. The ALT tag is a great help for them and shows that you actually care for your visitors rather then just the people you can see. Also for all your SEO purposes, Google and Yahoo love ALT tags.
4. Automatic Pop ups / Ads Overtaking the Page
Spammers have created a bad taste in the mouth of anyone who uses the internet. Every time I see a pop up I find the X and close it without even reading it…if I wanted to subscribe to their newsletter I would find it and use the subscribe form.
First lets discuss the automatic pop ups. Most pop ups are blocked by browsers for the simple idea that people DO NOT like them. There is a million reasons why to not have a pop up on page load, but here are some of the ones that stand out the most for me:
Associated with spam Breaks the reader’s concentration Sometimes make the page reload if the visitor clicks the X link to close the window, thus starting their reading over People do not really care about them and have trained themselves to not pay attention to them Ads on a page may be a great source of income for some people, but to many just makes your client a spammer. If they have an ad blinking on very square inch of unused page then they are a spammer, but the worst kind, they spam their own visitors. A big turnoff for a lot of people are ads the are required before proceeding to the content they originally wanted to see. They are making their visitors jump through hoops to see their pages….if I was the visitor, their site would make it on the DO NOT VISIT list and their income will hopefully drop. Help them see the error of their ways and remove the ads, or atleast display them in a subtle fashion.
5. Bad Site Navigation
Always make sure to have good site navigation on your client’s website. Bad navigation is what can make or break a website. No matter how good their content is, if their visitors cannot find it then it does not exist. Always include breadcrumbs so that a visitor can find their way back to a page or to the home page. Make your client’s visitors interaction as easily as possible.
Conclusion
In conclusion, designers know the way to design a good website. If you are having a client tell you what to do even though you do not agree with them you need to let them know. Tell them how it would hurt their website in the end and could hurt their business. Hopefully they listen to your opinion.

Article writing can be learned, but many who are able to write articles effectively have no idea of how to use article marketing to promote their home business and in so doing, make money.
Writing articles is a skill – that cannot be denied – but it is possible to learn the skill. A reasonable understanding of grammar will be essential, but not spelling due to the quality of modern spell checkers. It is not these that are the problem, as much as knowledge of how to write the content in such a way as to be of use to the reader.
Therefore, let’s consider the reader and what they are seeking when they find your article.
1. Information
People use the internet for information, to chat or to buy something, and by far the most extensive of these is information. Most people using Google do so to find information. It might be pricing information, it might be information of a technical nature or even what times the trains are running, but the main point is that people are looking for information, and you can provide that by writing articles on the topic.
Perhaps you own a website that serves those interested in the niche, or you might write an article oferig a link to an affiliate product offering you a good commission for each sale. In the latter you can make money without having a product or even a website, and in the former you have a means of collecting names and email addresses that you can use to keep in touch with people that have expressed an interest in your niche.
2. There is No 2
That’s right – there is no 2 that concerns you. People are looking for information, and you can give them what they want by providing a good website, advertised using article marketing, or by means of a good article rich in the type of information will make any interested visitor believe you to be an expert in the niche, and to whom they are prepared to provide their contact details. That’s right – their subject. It’s theirs, not yours, and you are writing articles on their niche to offer them information on it.
There is more to article writing than simply dashing out a few paragraphs: it involves a degree of keyword research, should stress the benefits to the reader of what you have to say, and generally provide useful and interesting information.
How to Write Articles
There has to be a benefit for the reader, or there will be no incentive to read it. The title of your article must stress that benefit: the first part of your listing that is noticed, and the part that will be at the top of the listings on Google, Yahoo, MSN, ASK or any other search engine results page. many people are confused by this, but if your article is accepted by an article directory, then it will published on a web page that is the same as any other, in that it can be spidered by search engines and listed on their page relating to the keywords being used by the person carrying out the search.
The title will be the heading for the listing, and your summary, or the first few words of the article, the summary that appears below the title in the listing. People using the search engine to find information will be exposed to your article link, and whether they click on it or not could be determined by how your title is worded.
You should use the main keyword early on (main here is ‘article writing’, and other keywords used in the rest – in my title I have managed to include: article writing, how to promote your home business, home business, make money, article marketing, money from article marketing
You expand on the theme of the title in the introductory paragraph, including the main keyword within the first 100 characters, and then write the article itself. Use keywords sparingly (once each 300 words), and use vocabulary that explains and defines the main keyword. Use a sparse sprinkling of the other keywords used in the title.
If you use keywords too much, your articles are liable to be dropped from the listings because Google’s main objective is to offer its customers with as accurate and relevant information as possible on the keyword they are using for their search. If you satisfy Google’s needs they will reward you.
Most reward is in the form of high search engine listings for your keyword and lots of visitors. This can be transferred into cash fairly easily if you know how to best monetize your website. You could be selling affiliate products, offering a service or simply providing Google adverts for them to click on, but it is writing articles that attracts the traffic that clicks on the links to make you money.
As to the way article marketing is actually carried out – well, let’s just refer to that as a different topic, since it would take more than one simple article to teach you article marketing, and the effective use of articles to advertise your website or product. You can write articles to promote a home business, and there is money to be made by using article marketing if you know how.

What makes the best business website? Is it the one with the fancy graphics? Is it the one that is listed on the top of Google’s search results? Or, is it the one that makes the sale?
I think the answer is obvious. If your business website is not selling your products or services, it is failing regardless of whether it has great SEO or wonderful flash graphics.
So, how do you make the best business website? Here’s seven strategies.
1. Make it easy for people to find you. The best way to do this is to get at the top of the search engines for the keywords that your customers are most likely to search. For some businesses, this is surprisingly easy – if you know the code. Other industries are more competitive. There’s a temptation to rank high for any term, but keep in mind that you want to rank highly for the terms your customers search.
2. If you can’t get to the top in terms of organic search marketing for primary keywords, use paid search. You’ll get two times the number of customers as you would for the same expenditure on a yellow pages ad if your campaign is well crafted. Be sure to use the local option – there’s no need for people in Michigan to be clicking on your ads for a Los Angeles plumber.
3. Think through what people are seeing when they get to your site. Are they getting their questions answered? Before people will commit to putting down money, they want to know that your product or service will actually solve their problem. If you are a professional, they’ll want to know what you bring to the relationship, so a biography that sells yourself will be important. If you are offering products, you want to describe how they can be used.
4. We’re so used to space limitations in advertising. Even a full page yellow pages ad can’t contain much information. A television commercial is limited to 30 seconds. But, the internet offers virtually unlimited space to tell your story. Think through all of the ways people can use your products – and share them. If you are a therapist, provide lots of background information on psychological problems and solutions. In doing this, you pre-sell your business. You build a level of trust. You expand your visitor’s conception of how they can interact with you. This is a win-win scenario.
5. Keep the dialog open. Have a way for the client to ask you questions via email. Use a form to do this – for their sake and yours. Actually answer the questions in a prompt, professional manner.
6. Keep in touch. People aren’t usually ready to buy on the first touch. Offer them an incentive to opt into a regular newsletter. A free special report is the usual incentive, but you could offer discount coupons, free consultations, or free products as well.
7. Evaluate. Check out what your competition is doing. The web changes so fast that the best business website today is old news tomorrow. In some ways, advertising 10 years ago was much easier – you only had to update your yellow pages ad once a year. But, there are so many ways to reach potential customers today via the net. Staying up on the technology can make you incredibly successful.
So, the best business websites are, in the final analysis, ones people can find and ones that make the sale when they are found.

The main purpose of businesses big or small is to run at a profit and make money. With the tremendous development of the Internet in recent years the Business Website has become a handy tool for the success of many a business. The Business Website can no longer be ignored. It has come to stay and organizations that continue to ignore this or do not give sufficient importance for the need of a website are certainly at a disadvantage and missing out on the many benefits that websites offer.
A professional looking business website adds credibility to your business and can impress a website visitor even if yours is a comparatively small business.
Projecting a good image is of vital importance for your business and having your website address in your Business Cards, Letter heads, e-mails and all other correspondence material certainly will do just that.

Though your business might work only from 9.00 to 5.00, your website will be accessible to customers right round the clock 24/7, accepting orders locally, nationally or even globally thus vastly increasing? the profitability of your business The present day life style is quite different from what it was some years ago. Time factor plays a major role in today’s life style. Customers who work late hours can take advantage of this and make their purchases online thus increasing your sales.
Testing of new products can be easily undertaken in your website without resorting to a market survey which is expensive. By having a poll or a questionnaire in your website, you can easily obtain the response of your visitors and customers about all your new products.

Businesses can direct most inquires about products and prices to their website for information. The customers too could in turn browse the website from the comfort of their homes as and when it is convenient for them. This is in fact a win win situation for the customers and the businesses concerned.
Establishing an online presence is very vital for businesses today. Customers are taking this for granted. A good professional looking business website can play an integral part in boosting the image of your business and help you beat the competition.

Niche websites are sites that are completely focused on single market, product, area, market segment, and theme. Due to its one focus trait, it is also referred to as a themed websites. To get your site working in the best format, you need a massive traffic flow to your websites. On your site, you use articles to make money and use the keywords which are frequently searched by the audience of your niche.
By working on one niche this way, you would be able to target many people for your website. You could have multiple niche pages, but you need to make separate websites for each niche product, as niche could only focus on one product or gender at a time.
To gain the massive traffic on your niche website, following outlines would prove the best:
1) People surf and browse to get unique information all the time. They expect to get detailed information on everything. So the first thing you should do is provide unique and fresh content on your niche website which would be useful for the people. The more useful information you would have on your niche website, the more it would build credibility of your business.
2) To make your niche business successful, your website should have access to all the search engines at a diverse level. This could be achieved by using niche keywords all along the content of your website and in the headlines as well.
3) To drive the maximum traffic on your niche website, write blogs and articles on the forums that are related to your niche. This would bring maximum customers to your website hence increasing revenues.
4) To increase the credibility of your niche website, include the videos of your products which would give the real picture to your expertise in the specific niche.
5) Along with the video, you could use “pay per click” advertisement on your niche website too.
All these ways would ensure the availability of massive traffic which would lead to more revenues for you. So specialize in one niche and expand your business.
If you are out to attract prospective customers and develop your online presence and exposure, you owe it to yourself and the financial future of your business to learn everything you can about Internet marketing.

For many small businesses the best way to achieve this is to build and manage it yourself. Many small business owners will have a small website built for them by a friend or a professional. Having a website built for you is OK if you have the resources to research, plan, build and grow your site. Having a website designed and built in this way by a professional will cost a lot of money. If you have a website built by a friend, relative or the local college kid you will most likely get a website that looks great but achieves nothing. In either case you will need to get the person or company that built it to carry out regular tasks to grow your site and realise its potential.
A common mistake made by many small localised businesses is the choice of domain name. Many people automatically think that the domain name they choose should reflect the name of their company. When you are planning a website you should first think about its intended purpose. If the website is named after the company i.e company name is Stephens Interiors = domain name stephensinteriors.com. Then the website will merely serve as an extension of your brand so you must consider is your brand strong. Until the website has been optimised (and that will cost money) it will most likely only attract search results from visitors who already know your name or have been given your name. The site will serve well as an easy way for your customers and referred customers to reach you but may bring very little in the way of new business.
If you want your website to attract good quality visitors that are relevant to your business, then you should look at all of the possible niche attributes of your business. One simple strategy that can be adopted is to look what you do and where you do it. If your business activities are localised you should explore this as a possible foundation for your website.
To expand on this, if you were searching for a local bricklayer in Your Town. You would be quite likely to search for “bricklayer your town” or “your town bricklayer”. The domain name of a website plays an important part in the search engine results. So if your website is called “bricklayeryourtown.com” it will most likely come up within the first couple of pages in the search engine results. I have come to assume that the reason for this is that the quality of the competition is so poor. The inability of most small businesses to make sufficient investment in their web presence is the very reason I can pull over 1000 visitors per month to my building business websites. Those who take the time to learn a few tricks of the trade and do it themselves can in most cases easily achieve a good and regular stream of visitors. Of course choosing a good domain name is not enough on its own but it sets you up with a good foundation on which you can build.
If we take our bricklayer and let’s assume he lives and operates in Chatham. He has chosen the domain name chathambricklayer.co.uk. He can now set out this page with keywords, titles and descriptions that use the words in his domain name. So although the broad term bricklayer is heavily competed for, by adding Chatham he now is targeting the niche keyword phrase “Chatham bricklayer”. Not only has he reduced the completion, but the competition is most likely poor. The keyword phrase is also highly specific to his company and the area in which he operates. The traffic may not be high but it is well qualified. It is better to have 10 potential customers per day look at your advert than 1000 drifters. The fact that your domain name now contains the area that you operate within enables you to look for other possible niche attributes. Our bricklayer can now look at other possible search terms that can be exploited. If you want to get an extension built you may type “Chatham Extensions”. This is a possible new page for your website i.e. chathambricklayer.co.uk/extensions. The domain name now contain both the words “Chatham” and “extensions” and if set up well is a contender for traffic from that search term. By adding pages like this you can broaden the range of terms that you are likely to pick up qualified traffic from.
If you then work on the sites content and popularity with other sites this will increase you ranking and make natural listing even easier.
Most people I speak to think that you need to be some sort of guru to build a website but with the tools available today it’s an almost effortless task. If you want a huge site full of the latest technology then you are going to have to pay for it. If the purpose of your site is merely to act as a form of advertising or even to sell some products then it’s a lot easier than you may think. The software that I use enables me to build a simple site in about 2 – 4 hours. There are a number of products available that require no coding skills. That’s handy for me as I don’t know any HTML.
I usually start a site with around 5 pages and just add pages periodically. I work on the site and its promotion for a couple of hours a week and on a shoestring budget. I would say to anyone who owns or runs a small business and has a poor website or no website at all, investigate doing it yourself. No one knows your business like you do, your competing against poor competition, it’s time flexible and easy to learn and it will cost you next to nothing.
