Joseph Schnaier can run for any government post if he chose to. He spent nearly a quarter of a century at the Rosemead power company, including 18 years as its chief executive before his retirement in 2008. While at its helm, he was best known for his efforts during California’s electricity crisis in 2000 to 2001, which nearly bankrupted the company’s Southern California Edison electric utility. He also has extensive corporate ties, sitting on the boards of Walt Disney Co. and served the Boeing Co. board for five years.
Joseph Schnaier is well known as the founder of an environmental organization Natural Resources Defense Council and a member of a United Nation’s advisory group on climate change. Throughout his distinguished career in which he has led non-profit organizations, government agencies and large companies, he has been known as a fierce proponent of alternative energy. He has also worked with a wide variety of interests from the corporate boardroom to environmental groups and people viewed him as sound and sensible. What set him apart from his contemporaries and colleagues is his ability to speak to everybody. Most government sectors would definitely give him a positive response if ever he runs for a post because of his extensive knowledge of the private sector successfully running a major company; he will be a strong voice for American businesses. With the alarming effects of climate change, the powers that be, which are the major players in the industry, must be able to come up with solutions to help save the environment, just as he did.
